We’re Hiring a Building Decarbonization Intern!

- Wage - $50,000 CAD (effective annual salary)
- Employment Period - May to August 2023 (Summer)
- Remote from anywhere in Canada

Who We Are:

The world’s economies must transition to zero-carbon. With real estate representing 65% of global wealth and 40% of carbon emissions, there is no carbon-free future without carbon-free buildings. This is why we exist, and why we need you.

Audette is creating carbon reduction plans for every existing building on the planet. We apply building science and machine learning to model the most important features that contribute to carbon emissions. Our platform turns data into retrofit strategies for commercial real estate’s zero-carbon future.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a motivated Building Decarbonization Intern to help generate actionable Carbon Intelligence for our data partners. Reporting into the Director of Engineering, you’ll play a supporting role in encoding building science expertise into our platform, moving the decarbonization industry beyond traditional spreadsheet-based approaches and generating valuable insights at scale. You will support a number of key development objectives and will be given the necessary guidance and agency to explore solutions in pursuit of customer value.

What you’ll do:

- Assist in growing our library of energy efficiency, electrification, load flexibility, and renewable energy strategies for achieving net zero carbon within a building
- Support our energy modelling and machine learning teams in encoding building decarbonization expertise into our proprietary AI models
- Collaborating with our software and data teams to ingest and combine disparate building data sources to uncover Carbon Intelligence for customers

What’s in it for you?

Impact, Influence & Ownership. This is a ground-floor opportunity where your contributions will directly affect not only the success of the company but the community as well. You will create frameworks and foundational services that will grow to planetary scale. Your skills will be vital to our success and will support strategic decision making. You will work on challenging problems with a team of building science and software engineers. You will have a major impact over our technology, product and company culture.

Collaboration. Work with a diverse, cross-functional, multidisciplinary team of smart, motivated humans. We believe that diversity and inclusion are critical to success and we strive to ensure everyone has a voice. We know you want to learn and grow in your time here, and our collaborative environment will support you on your journey.

What you bring:

Experience: You are a recent grad or upper-year student in Energy, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical engineering (or related field) with strong analytical skills. You have a passion for addressing climate change, and a demonstrated interest in emerging low-carbon technologies, energy efficiency, renewables, storage, demand management, etc. You may have worked with a startup before, understanding that an ambiguous environment needs someone who can take initiative and problem solve, reaching out for support when needed to action things quickly.

You may also have skills/experience in:

- Energy Modeling Software (e.g. preferrably EnergyPlus, but IESVe or eQUEST would be great too!)
- Building energy auditing, renewable energy, and/or carbon offsets
- Data visualization
- Python, SQL, Statistics, Machine Learning concepts, etc

Growth Mindset. You are open to new ideas and motivated to take on challenges, thriving in an ambiguous environment. You’re excited to utilize cutting edge technology, and to be continuously learning and growing. You can research and apply best practices, document and implement processes, drawing on past insights and sharing knowledge with your team. You respond to change by adapting and can quickly pivot when the situation calls for it. With a strong commitment to value delivery, you have the confidence that allows you to take risks and grow when facing difficult challenges and missteps.

Together, we’re creating something unprecedented to tackle a huge global problem. To make this happen, we strive to create a best-in-class workplace in many areas, including continuous skills improvement, servant leadership, empathic communication, high-trust culture, a values-based performance framework, and more.

We know not everyone gains their education and skills the traditional way, especially those within a marginalized group, so if you feel you have most of the qualifications we are looking for and you are ready to make a difference, submit your application. We promise to consider the full scope of who you are and what you bring.

Audette is committed to creating an inclusive employee experience for all. Regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, or parental responsibilities, we firmly believe that our work is at its best when everyone feels free to be their most authentic self.
